From 1933 (Showa 8) until it was lost during the WWII air raids, a famous actor, Kazuo Hasegawa (1908-1984), owned a fruit parlor "Choya" in Shinsaibashisuji where Doutor Coffee is currently located. It was rather uncommon for celebrities to open their own stores or restaurants back then. Some people were even misled to have the idea that Hasegawa would wait on a table.
Thanks to Hasegawa’s popularity, his fruits parlor prospered. Several gourmets also commented highly on his fruit parlor because of its relaxing atmosphere and the top quality fruits.
After the war, Hasegawa tried to rebuild the lost fruit parlor. Unfortunately, it was never reopened.
